First, what are limits? Simple put, the things that stop you. However let's get further into it. What's stopping you? Your body feels "normal" and you don't "think" there's anything you can't do. Until it's time for your body to perform an action, then the reality of your body hits and you can't do that, sometimes it's subtle, and sometimes it's loud and painful, but then you think, what happened? I'm pretty sure i could do that thing until my body said no... But why did my body say no? and depending on the degree of pain associated with that realization, you either never perform that action again or never figure out the root cause of that sudden limit.
So what's happening here? and why didn't you notice it until now? It's simple, overtime your body adapts to the way it has been used, aka the paths that has been open, remaining in use, stays open. meanwhile, unconsciously, the paths you've been ignoring overtime, have also adapted and sealed off, shutting down and limiting certain functions. However because you dont "feel" these things happening, you doing notice and "acknowledge" these things happening in your body. So your body continues to think it can do what it has all along despite physically actively shutting down certain paths. Wether due to injury, ignorance, or ill-alignment, those paths are no longer as capable as they once were, creating limits within you, meanwhile the other parts of your body are still capable but until you've pressed against those limits it's unknown that there's an issue. Until one day you accidentally press against that limit, then it breaks.
So here now we have a clear example of what's happening in real time as we "age". Understanding this allows you to plug in different scenarios and variables and start to be able to understand what's happening under the surface. For example, an active kid that gets older and all of a sudden can't move like they used to. A body builder doing a lift that suddenly leads to injury. A sudden movement of a person that exposes a lingering pain. All of these have a root cause, and that's lack of awareness of your limits. But that's only half of it, the other half is lack of awareness of capacity. Capacity being what you learned from the lessons earlier up till this point. How to feel your muscles, connect to your body, acknowledge your breath, and it's role in your ability to function, and how that so feels when put together until you've reached your "limit". See how it all comes together.
Now to explain these limits. And once understood and grasped you can work towards understanding how to use this knowledge to build a strong foundation, and break your limits. Giving you access to newfound strength, balance, ability, and capacity.
Depending on what you feel there's certain limits your body will reach. Be it a Wall, A Void, Or an Obstruction. I will do my best to break it down in a way that you can easily understand. Walls are limits you reach that obstruct your capacity. For example, you reach a wall commonly when breathing. The deepest point of inhalation, where you suddenly feel constricted as of there's no more room for you to go. However, there is, and without effort you will not be able to get past it. That is a wall. Out when you feel like something needs to pop(crack) when you move in a direction. That is a wall.
A Void is a feeling of disconnect from an area, path, or muscle. Voids are distinguishable by there feeling of a lack of energy or nothingness along a path at a certain point. A Void is also characterized by the places in your body that you have no point of strength or access to. For example, if you squeeze your glutes and you feel a point of tension and flexing in one side but nothing in the other, that's a void. Of you can flex your biceps and feel a peak in connection one side but you don't feel that same flow or connection in the other, that's a void. Voids are also characterized by shakeys or spasms. This is because let's say there's a void that lies in the middle of a path that you have connection to on opposite ends. As you move about, unconsciously or consciously activating those paths, you will naturally hit the void in that path, and because there's no connection to that path that's strong enough aka disconnected, your body will struggle (shake/spasm) to build the bridge that makes that connection whole. This relationship between not feeling a path and what's happening when you're feeling a path or part of a path that you have access to will be further explained as we dive into that lesson specifically about reconnecting paths of power and that process. For now this is crucial to basic understanding.
And now for Obstructions. Obstructions are conditions or physical limitations that diminish or stop your access to a path of power. For example an obstruction can be inflammation, or a knot that diminishes your function. Or scar tissue buildup from an injury. Or even disfunction of a path because of misalignment, so when that path is activated it reaches choke point(pressure point). These are further characterized by accompanying pain, winding tension, and limited range of motion. And usually when relieved, brings feelings of euphoria, freedom of movement and intensified connection.
Obstructions are not always walls. A wall can be an obstruction or a disconnection, Voids can be created by walls or as a consequence of natural adaption.
Now this is just the surface of these lessons. As we dive deeper to understand more context around what breaking these limits mean, understanding where they come from, the context of their pain, and the results, rewards, and benefits for overcoming them. What that looks like and what that feels like. Giving you the ability to gauge your own level of power, capacity, and ability.
